Hi friends! Welcome back to Mackenzie Kateri! Today’s topic: College. All coming to you live from a college girl. Yup. You heard right! This is my first official posting as an official college student. How crazy is that? Me? A college student? You could have fooled me.
I have successfully completed my second week at the University of Scranton as a strategic communications major. And I’m here to give you all the inside scoop.
So, let’s get this party started.
A new world filled with new people, new adventure, and new everything to say the least.
John Donne said, “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”
Clearly Donne has never attended a twenty first century college, because everyone is an island. An individual island. Thousands of students crammed together on one campus, yet we’re all islands. Separate and alone. But, that’s the amazing part. College is a new life. A continent where you make your own life and take care of yourself and you don’t have to worry about other people.
But, it’s scary.
It’s scary making friends. And walking to class (I didn’t get lost yet, so fingers crossed). And preparing for a course.
The transition from high school to college freshmen is a game changer. I attended a small school. A building filled with friends and familiar faces. As a senior, I was a big fish in a small pond. But, oh how the tables have turned. It was comforting to know everyone. To wave to everyone. To gossip and laugh with friends and teachers in-between classes. Now, I’m lucky if I see one person I even recognize walking to class.
I realize that the transition is going to take time. I know that I’m not going to just wake up one day and master the art of college. It’s a learning process. Within time, I’ll be a pro.
But for right now, I’m just trying to be the best island I can be.
Updates soon to come.
Thanks for reading. XO, MK.
